I'd rather quit school than cut my hair - Rasta student admitted at Okess says

- A young boy with dreadlocks named Selassie Yankey said he would rather quit schooling than trim his hair

- The boy said this in a radio interview after he was admitted at OKESS and told to trim down his hair before coming in

- A statement by Selassie's father, Michael Kofi Sarpong, indicates that his son has been admitted into the school now

Selassie Yankey, a young Rastafarian boy who was admitted at Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School has said that he would have quit school if the only choice to continue his education was to trim his hair.

According to 3news.com, the boy named Selasi Yankee was interviewed on Akoma FM after he was reportedly asked by the school authorities to cut his hair before getting admitted.

However, Selassie's father has indicated in a post that his son has been finally granted admission despite his hairstyle which forms a core part of their beliefs as a family.

Selassie's father, Michael Kofi Sarpong, whose hair is also deadlocked, told the host of GhanAkoma Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin that,

“In our family, we are all dreadlocked because that is our belief. So we can’t cut his hair, he has been wearing the hair since infancy and throughout all his documents he’s captured with his locks so what’s different now?”

Meanwhile, Tyrone Iras Marhguy, one of the students who was refused admission into the Achimota School because of his dreadlocks has given a detailed account of the incident.

According to the teenager, when he arrived at the Achimota School, a mistress prevented him from submitting the items the school authorities asked first-year students to buy and submit.
