The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has stated that it has no intentions of nationwide loadshedding programme like is being circulated in the news.

According to GRIDCo, what some parts of Accra are experiencing, is part of a couple of projects to boost power supply reliability in the Greater Accra Region.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, GRIDCo noted that the ongoing projects appear to have heightened perceptions of impending nationwide power cuts.

We are in talks with ECG, NEDCo for ‘dumsor’ timetable - GRIDCo

It listed the projects as the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA)-funded Pokuase Substation and Kasoa Bulk Supply Point installations and the French Development Agency (AFD)-funded Tema-Accra Transmission Line reinforcement project.

The projects are expected to be completed in the months of June and July.

GRIDCo noted that at some point during the process, the contractors will need to interconnect to the current transmission system.

For this to happen, there will be intermittent power outages at different periods to “safely connect the new installations”.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) is in talks with ECG and NEDCo to roll out a timetable for power outages across the country.

This is because there will be more outages as GRIDCo continues the upgrade of its systems.

The upgrade is expected to be completed in July.

“The contractors are asking for some outages at some particular places so these are the areas where we are looking at a discussion with some key stakeholders like ECG and NEDCo so we can arrive at some appreciable timetable to communicate where there is the need for outages to happen,” Corporate Communications Manager at GRIDCo, Ebenezer Amankwah, stated on Joy News’ PM: Express.
