- He noted that he always felt left out because he thought the only way he could love Jesus was by subscribing to a churchy way of life

Christian hip-hop rapper Lecrae has said he does not identify at all with the church culture.

As much as he loves Jesus, the musician finds it hard to adapt a “churchy” vibe or behaviour and prefers confessing his adoration for the most high outside the confines of a place of worship.

In a Twitter thread seen by TUKO.co.ke, Lecrae stated that he always felt out of place when it came to the church culture.

“I love Jesus but I am not churchy. I used to be embarrassed by that but now I realise it is okay to love God but not fit in with Church culture,” the rapper explained.

He is not into suits, does not know all the hymns, prefers RnB and did not grow up listening to gospel.

For the longest time while following his journey in Christ, Lecrae thought he had to embrace all these things.

“Being a follower of Jesus sometimes I have felt I needed to embrace these things and felt left out because I did not. I feel like worship music is a style and matter of taste. I am not really a fan of it. If you rap it or sing it like Jazmine Sullivan...I would rock it with,” he continued.

However, the musician noted that his sentiments are not an attack on the church and insisted that to each, their own.
