- North Tongu MP, Okudzeto Ablakwa is building close to 30 classroom blocks throughout his constituency

The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has handed over a six-unit classroom block he built for one of the villages in his constituency.

The former deputy education minister handed over the edifice to Morklikpo village on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, during a short ceremony.

The edifice is expected to help in reducing the disturbing phenomena of schooling under trees within the constituency.

The six-unit classroom block handed to the river overbank community is one of some thirty primary schools under construction in very hard to reach communities “as we are determined to totally eliminate the phenomenon of schools-under-trees and end the unacceptable spectacle of children walking long distances to access education,” the North Tongu legislator stated in a Facebook post seen by YEN.com.gh.

“We will keep doing our best to remove all barriers to our children's fundamental right to quality education.
“I am grateful for the amazing reception,” he added.

The former deputy minister’s gesture generated loads of exciting reactions on his Facebook timeline and YEN.com.gh compiled a few.

In other news on YEN.com.gh, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is asking for a tariff increase to support its operations.

Speaking on Thursday, April 8, 2021, the Managing Director of the state power distributor, Kwame Agyeman-Badu said the company needs the money to improve its operations amid incessant power outages across the country.

“If we get the increase, we will love it [but] that will be up to the PURC because, no matter what we propose, they will ultimately decide,” he stated.
