The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has slammed the host of ‘Good Evening Ghana’, Paul Adom-Otchere, for a terribly poor political analysis.

This follows Paul Adom-Otchere's paring of the NDC General Secretary with the Speaker of Parliament as the NDC’s potential candidates for the 2024 elections.

Unenthused by the analysis of the journalist, Asiedu Nketia likened it to the work of an uninformed village lotto forecaster whose permutations are not based on cogent empirical thoroughness.

“I have seen some analysis on Metro TV by Paul Adom-Otchere. Whenever I see it, I see it as someone who is working for lotto numbers,” he told Accra-based Asempa FM on Tuesday and monitored by YEN.com.gh.

John Mahama is leading NDC in 2024 by hook or crook - Sammy Gyamfi

“How can you pair Asiedu Nketia, John Mahama, Bagbin…like a village lotto forecaster…the analysis is not scientific," he added.

Asiedu Nketia chastised the Metro TV journalist for creating the impression that he had spoken to the NDC hierarchy before coming out with his analysis.

He said he believed “those things are intended to sow seeds of discord within our party”, adding: “NDC is not run on the basis of lotto forecasting on Metro TV.”

Still, on the NDC, the party’s national communications director has stated that former President John Dramani Mahama will be the NDC’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.

Sammy Gyamfi said the former president will be the flagbearer “by hook or crook.”

Gyamfi disclosed this while addressing students at the University of Cape Coast as filed by Ghanaweb.

President Akufo-Addo defeated the former president in the 2020 election to secure another four-year term.

He collected 51.302% of the votes cast against the latter’s 47.359%.

The votes difference between the two candidates stood at 517, 231, representing a four-percentage point, one of the highest since 1996.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in a recent survey projected that the NDC will win the 2024 elections, but with a different person as the party’s flagbearer.

The MP for Ashaiman Constituency, Ernest Norgbey, however, disagreed, insisting that the NDC does not need to field a new candidate for the 2024 presidential elections.

“NDC cannot go into this election with any other candidate rather than John Dramani Mahama,” Norgbey told Joy News.

He said the party needs to ride on the shoulders of the former president who has been in the system for a very long time and who can win power in 2024.
