The historic landing happened to be of an Africa World Airlines test flight which was to pave way for commercial operations of the airport.

The first landing was witnessed by loads of people including the chiefs and other citizens of Ho and its environs.

Completed in 2017 by the John Mahama administration, the airport had not been in use for over three years.

In January 2021, Africa World Airlines (AWA), a private carrier announced that it will start flights to the Ho Airport in April 2021 with two weekly services from Accra.

In March 2021, the Minister of Transport announced that flights would commence on 13 April 2021, but this did not occur as announced.

Sharing pictures from the ceremony on Facebook, Gunu wrote: “With the opening of the Ho Airport, our brothers and sisters in and around Kumasi who travel to Togo to trade can now fly from Kumasi to Ho and then connect to Aflao by road in 1 hour 45 minutes.”

“This means that they cut off the long road trip from Kumasi through Accra before connecting to Aflao through Sogakope...” he added, stressing, “What Mahama envisions with closed eyes, Akufo-Addo will never see even if he is floating in the skies.”

Gunu’s comments generated massive reactions.

Atarege Gilbert Asylum writes, “Ghanaians are now seeing the vision of JM. That's why we refer to him as a Visionary Leader.”

Twitter coming to Ghana means more jobs for youth in Technology – Oppong Nkrumah brags

Ebenezer Yesutor Atsiatorme stated: “We all want good and betterment of our country. Some of this pure propaganda is the reason behind numerous abandoned state projects. At least give credit to the one who started it, to the one who completed it, and to the one who commissioned it for operational use and we are good to go!!!”
Gideon Troit opined, “Is like building a structure on beach sand.
All the roads in the region leading to this airport are very deplorable.
It would have been better if these roads were attended to
Our leaders have low IQ
How can you do this to people who need good roads instead of an airport?”
Watson Agordo added: “Somebody started but couldn't complete it. Praise President Nana Addo for completing the Airport in Ho. Always condemning your opponent is not good. Even what is the probability that Mahama would have completed the Ho Airpot if he wins the 2016 election? Let our good comments motivate President Nana Addo to complete the Eastern corridor road started by Mahama. Nana deserves more commendations than condemnations as far as development in Volta region is concern.”
