Deborah Mmabila Azika: Girl from Vea in Upper East graduates as best student in ICAG

- A young lady from Vea in the Upper East Region has become the best graduating student at the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG)

- She bagged four awards in the process after previously graduating with a First Class in Bcom Accounting from the University of Cape Coast

- Deborah Mmabila Azika, as her full name goes, had to fight the odds that were against her as a young ambitious girl but she made it regardless

Deborah Mmabila Azika, a young Ghanaian girl from Vea in the Upper East Region has become the best graduating chartered accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG).

Information available to YEN.com.gh indicates that Deborah received four awards at the graduation including Best Student in Advanced Taxation, Best First attempt, Overall Best Female Candidate, and Overall Best Candidate.

Prior to getting enrolled at the ICAG, Deborah studied Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and graduated with First Class Honours and a CGPA of 3.80 at the University of Cape Coast.

During her undergraduate days at the University of Cape Coast, Deborah won the much-coveted School of Business Dean’s Award twice.

She is currently with the Treasury and Debt Management Division where she assists in debt sustainability analysis and reporting, credit risk analysis of state-owned enterprises, among others.

Deborah's mother sponsored her through school by selling at the bus station and she, with no electricity in her town, had to study with lanterns at night and beat all odds to get into university and ICAG.

In a separate report, Francis Beamish Tetteh, a Ghanaian student and former contestant at the National Science and Maths Quiz for Chemu Senior High School has passed away in Toronto, Canada, whilst pursuing his PhD.

Ghanaweb reports that Francis was admitted to the MSc Programme in Mechanical Engineering at York University but due to his hard work and determination, he was transferred to the PhD by virtue of his exploits in academics and research.

The brilliant you man, apart from being on the NSMQ, graduated with a First Class from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and was awarded the best Material Science and Engineering Graduate.
