Kasoa Again! 70 criminals picked up in massive police swoop in Ghana's new 'crime city'

Over the last couple of weeks, Kasoa in the Awutu Senya constituency in the Central Region, has been in the news for various crime reports.

Some of these include the killing of a 10-year-old by two teenagers for money rituals as well as the shooting of a businessman at Opeikuma.

News reaching YEN.com.gh indicates that over 70 suspected criminals have been apprehended by the Kasoa Divisional Police Command during a massive swoop.

Some of these suspected criminals were picked up at weed-smoking bases while some were also hiding at the cemetery with their bags and mats.

According to the Divisional Police Command, the move is part of means to intensify security in Kasoa to reduce the continuous killings and robberies in the area.

The Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Charles Ampem Koosonu revealed that he together with his team, is going to be working around the clock to bring back sanity to Kasoa.

According to a report filed by StarrNews, the criminals will be put before the court from today, Thursday, April 22, 2021.

C/Supol Koosonu said over 200 additional police personnel have been deployed to Kasoa to increase security in the area.

He however, issued a note of caution to the teenagers who roamed about the streets carefree while engaging in illegal activities to be very careful.

He added that all weed and smoking centers in Kasoa would be demolished after proper assessment.

Still on crime, authorities in the United Arab Emirates have arrested five Ghanaians for attempting to smuggle marijuana into the Gulf state.

Confirming the arrest in a statement sighted by YEN.com.gh, Ghana’s consulate in Dubai warned travelers to the UAE to pay extra attention when accepting parcels to deliver to others there.

The arrest of the five was made between January and March 2021 at the Dubai Airport.

“The sad part is that all the parcels containing the weed were given to them by agents in Ghana who acquired the UAE Visa for them, with instructions to them to give the parcels to their counterpart agents in the UAE on arrival,” the statement stated.
