According to the breakdown of the findings, Asante leads with 16%, Ewe, 14%, Fante, 11.6%, Boron (Brong), 4.9%, Dagomba, 4.4%, Dangme, 4.2%, Dagarte (Dagaba), 3.9%, Kokomba, 3.5%, Akyem, 3.2%, Ga, 3.1%, and other, 31.2%.

The research took into consideration 50 languages.

It further noted that about 9.5million Ghanaians speak Akan and its related dialects while 3.82million others speak Ewe in the country.

Meanwhile, Ga is spoken by some 745,000 people per the data report, Abron by 1.17 million people, Dagbani by 1.16 million people, Dangme and Dagaar by 1.02 million and 924,000 people respectively.

Konkomba and Farefare are spoken by 831,000 and 638,000 people respectively, the research revealed.

This is coming on the back of the recent kerfuffle following the publication of educational materials on the blind side of the Ghana Education Service (GES), seeming to disparage people belonging to the Ewe tribe.

That notwithstanding, the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, said publishers of the textbooks with the 'ewe-hating' content cannot be sanctioned by the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA).

He blamed the circulation of textbooks with bigoted content against Ewes on the lack of an enforcement regime for NaCCA.

In the public announcement, the Head of Public Affairs Unit/CID, Deputy Superintendent Juliana Obeng said the 27-year-old suspect in August 2014 collected a hydraulic drilling machine from the complainant on work and pay system.

But he has since vanished and all efforts to trace his whereabouts proved unsuccessful.
