The devastating inferno which began at around 14:00GMT on Sunday at the slum close to the Cocoa Clinic was brought under control an hour later.

The fire consumed over 40 structures that were being occupied by several families, myjoyonline reported.

Afua Pokuaah, a relative of Gyimah said he refused to heed advice against living in the slum.

Citing a police report, dailymailgh.com reported that Gyimah was sleeping in one of the wooden structures when the fire began. Trapped, he was charred beyond recognition.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, the Metropolitan Fire Officer, DO I Rashid Nissawu, said. However, he noted huge cotton deposits at the slum contributed to the spread of the fire.

“So far we managed to marshal three fire pumps and now the fire is under control and has finally been extinguished. One person has been burnt in the fire and we have reported to the police”, he told the online outlet.

Gyimah’s charred remains have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for preservation as some displayed victims were still counting their losses.

In other news, social media posts of President Akufo-Addo and the Vice President – Dr. Bawumia slamming the erstwhile Mahama administration reemerged on Twitter – haunting the current records of both political figures.

Nana Addo, Bawumia haunted by past Twitter posts on Mahama's performance as cost of living gets unbearable

President Akufo-Addo in 2012 slammed John Mahama, who was then the president, for the hike in the cost of living.

He raged over the hike in fuel prices saying it was inimical to the standard of living of Ghanaians.

The Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, also in a Twitter post on May 2012, lamented what he described as the “triple” shoot-up in the cost of water, electricity, and fuel prices.

He owed these trends to the “incompetence” of the then Mahama administration.

Fast forward – 2021- both political heads are being haunted by their own words.

It comes as the effect of the 1 percent Covid-19 recovery levy has sparked a hike in the prices of goods and services across the country.

The first increment is that of fuel prices. This follows a directive from the National Petroleum Authority for the Oil marketing companies to start applying the new taxes on fuel from May 1.

In addition to that, the Authority has also increased some levies on the price build-up. This will result in liters going up by some 47 pesewas.

The price could be more than what is expected as some marketing firms are also expected to increase the margin by some 3 percent as part two weekly receive. The government has also slapped an 18 pesewas increment on every kilogram of gas effective May 1.

What this means is that you will, for example, pay 4.5 cedis more for a 25kg LPG cylinder.
