Lost And Found Cat: Norfolk Family Reunites With Missing Cat After 13 Years

- When a family cat in Norfolk went missing, efforts to recover it were in vain

A family in Thetford, Norfolk is rejoicing after reuniting with their lost cat that disappeared 13 years ago.

According to the owner Gemma Barbieri, the cat named Rose went missing in 2008 not so long after she was given as a gift to her then eight-year-old daughter Alicia.

After a series of searches that yielded nothing, the family gave up hope of ever finding her.

She was, therefore, stunned when a call came in from the Cats Protection Downham Market Adoption Centre informing her that a microchip showed her as the owner.

"I just blurted out 'have you found Rose?' They said a black cat brought in as a stray had been scanned and the microchip showed that she was missing," she revealed.

The protection centre shared the news on their Facebook page as the family came over to reunite with their pet.

It explained that the centre used the contact details on the chip and, to their relief, the phone number was still in use by the cat's owner.

"The lady at the other end of the phone was over the moon, there were tears and the story of how Rose had gone missing just a week or so after her brother was run over and died. 13 years ago," read the post in part.

There was an emotional reunion as Barbieri took back the cat from the centre.

"We are so blessed to be able to reunite Rose and her owner and occasions such as this are what make our jobs so worthwhile," the post concluded.
