- President Akufo-Addo has cleared the air on his position on the resignation of the former Auditor General

- He said Daniel Domelevo was not pressured by the government to leave his office

- According to him, there is a prescribed time to stay in office and Domelevo's time was due to proceed on retirement

The resignation of the former Auditor -General, Daniel Domelovo came as a surprise to many Ghanaians as most people felt the president was witch-hunting him.

Domelevo was asked to proceed on some days' leave and return on March 3 to resume his official duties in his portfolio.

Upon his return, he was directed through a statement signed by the president to go on retirement, since his documents were evidence that he was due to go home.

Speaking in an interview to CNN, President Akufo-Addo said Daniel Domelevo was not pressured by the government to leave his office.

According to him, there is a prescribed time to stay in office and Domelevo's time was due to proceed on retirement.

“There’s a time for retiring which is prescribed by statute, not my making. If you are 60 years old, you’re supposed to no longer be able to work in the public service,” he said.

In other news, former President John Dramani Mahama says Ghanaians are going through agonising hardship and suffering from the ever-increasing cost of living under the Akufo-Addo administration.

According to the former president, the plight of Ghanaians will worsen further with the blatant increase in existing and new taxes as there will be steep rises in the prices of fuel, food, and every basic item.

To rescue the country from the “abyss it is falling”, Mahama called on President Akufo-Addo in his May Day message to stretch a hand of cooperation to all and sundry for help as he appears to be struggling to get things fixed.
