Former Central Regional Minister, Kwame Duncan, has let the cat out of the bag regarding who leads the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 general elections.

Speaking during Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ show and monitored by YEN.com.gh, the former regional minister hinted that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be chosen via overwhelming endorsement to lead the NPP into the elections.

Dr. Bawumia played a pivotal role in the 2016 and 2020 electoral victory of the NPP. He was able to effortlessly sway thousands of votes from National Democratic Congress (NDC) strongholds in the Northern Region.

“…The Akufo-Addo and the Bawumia duo that I know; oh, my goodness!” Kwamena Duncan stated.
“In the second term, look, let us do our portions. Let us do what we're supposed to do. At the close of the second tenure, there will be no doubt at all that the second in command will have to continue,” he added.

Ama Busia had already endorsed the candidature of Dr. Bawumia, saying he is the right person to lead the NPP into the 2024 elections.

“I hold Dr. Bawumia in high esteem and have unwavering faith in him,” Ama Busia said in a recent interview as reported by graphic.com.gh.

Sister of late Prime Minister Kofi Abrefa Busia, Ama Busia added that: "When it comes to Bawumia, let me stand up for him. He has performed so well as Vice President and I say no Vice President has worked so hard and performed better than him in Ghana.”

In an earlier YEN.com.gh report, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Accra, Rt. Rev. Dr. Daniel S.M Torto declared that “no man can dim the light” of Dr. Bawumia.

The vice president will be battling the likes of Trade and Industry Minister, Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten and the Agriculture Minister for the chance to lead the NPP into the 2024 elections.

A recent survey by the European Public Policy Institute (EPPI) disclosed that Dr. Bawumia has an “upper hand” over the trade and industry minister as the successor to President Akufo-Addo as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.

Meanwhile, controversial pastor, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, says the NPP will lose the 2024 elections if the party presents a non-Christian presidential candidate.

In effect, the head pastor of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry believes the NPP will be booted out of the Jubilee House with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer.

The vice president is the only prominent non-Christian in the elephant fraternity being widely tipped to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the NPP’s presidential candidate in the 2024 elections.

He is seen by many political watchers as the key to breaking the 8-year cycle.
