'Doctor of borrowing degree': Ghanaians bash Akufo-Addo over UCC doctorate degree conferment

- Ghanaians are not really excited about the upcoming bestowing of a doctorate degree on President Akufo-Addo

- A commentator asked if the degree is for borrowing in the era of Ghana beyond aid

- The event to award the degree will be held on May 29 during a special University of Cape Coast congregation

The news about President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo being awarded a Doctorate degree by the University of Cape Coast has been met with severe backlash.

On Thursday, May 20, 2021, YEN.com.gh reported that a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership degree will be bestowed on the president by the university on Saturday, May 29, 2021, during a special congregation.

The news has been met with dismay with many Ghanaians questioning the decision.

"Dr of borrowing degree in the era of Ghana beyond aid," joked Eric Doe Cucuson. His statement was backed by another social media user who wrote: "Doctor Nana borrow ooo"

Other commentators also based their dislike of the news on the state of the country, and what they say is the level of corruption in the government led by President Akufo-Addo.

"Even if you are a diploma holder and you are capable of managing your position well you are better than someone with all the titles on earth but a messed to humanity. Doctor of corruption, mismanagement, culture of silence, hardship, journalist brutalities etc#FixTheCountryNow titles do not solve problems facing Ghanaians," said Zanlerigu Daanaya Jnr.

"Ghana always celebrating mediocre individuals. This man has done nothing in this country to deserve even a matches box as an appreciation," replied Joshua Adjei.

Nii Okai added: "The value is still the same, Nana Addo ineptitude. No amount of Doctoral conference will ever change that. The worse so far."

In other news, an international Ghanaian student, Dr. Andrew Asante, has earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) from the University of Florida in the United States.
