Lorry fares gone up by 13% as fuel prices increased weeks ago

The Road Transport Operators in the country have increased commercial transport fares by 13 percent.

According to a report filed by theghanareport, this is the first increase in public transport fares this year, despite the increment in fuel tariffs.

The new prices are expected to take effect from Saturday, June 5.

This goes to explain that passengers would be paying 20 pesewas on every one cedi charge.

According to the operators, the increase is in line with the administrative arrangements on public transport fares.

“After long and difficult negotiations with stakeholders, a 13 percent upward adjustment in public transport fares across all category of services has been urged upon. This is to accommodate predominantly an increase in the price of fuel." the statement noted.

In other news, a Ghanaian registered purse seine Tuna-fishing vessel was attacked at Cotonou in the Benin Republic.

According to a report filed by 3News, this is the second Ghanaian registered vessel attacked on the high sea in less than two weeks.

The vessel has been conducting fishing activities in Ghanaian waters since leaving Tema harbor on May 26, 2021, and crossing into Benin waters on May 30, 2021.

The crew of the vessel reported sighting a suspicious vessel about an hour before the attack but could not ascertain whether the two small boats were launched from the vessel.

Moments later, the vessel was swiftly approached by two pirate small boats forcing it to stop.

Seven pirates all armed with weapons boarded the vessel, ransacked the vessel, and took away personal belongings and valuables of crew members.
