President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has paid his last respect to former NPP General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie a.k.a. Sir John.

Sir John was buried at his hometown, Sakra Wonoo in the Ashanti region, on Thursday, June 3, 2021.

A video has popped up showing President Akufo-Addo joining other mourners at the burial grounds to bid farewell.

The president arrived at the funeral grounds in a sombre mood while clad in black traditional mourning cloth.

After getting down from his car, he went around to exchange greetings with the bereaved family and other mourners present.

He was then ushered into a tent where Sir John had been laid in state to pay his last respect.

Who is Sir John?

Sir John was born in 1957 and passed away on July 1, 2020, after a short illness.

He was a Ghanaian lawyer and politician who held a top position in the party of the current ruling government.

During the John Agyekum Kufour administration (2001-2009), he was appointed head of legal services at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and was later made to act as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the corporation.

Sir John held several other positions including serving as general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2010 to 2014.

Prior to his passing, he was the CEO of the Forestry Commission.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Sir John's body was conveyed from Accra to Sakra Wonoo in a helicopter.

In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh, the helicopter carrying Sir John's body was seen hovering over the town.

It was moments after the helicopter landed that a long convoy of vehicles including the hearse went to pick the casket and sent it to his house.

Among the many sad scenes after the arrival of Sir John's remains was when the son of the politician shed tears over upon seeing the casket.

In a video, the young man was seen standing with his arms folded as he watched on while some people brought out his dad's coffin from the hearse.
