Achimota School: Photos emerge of Rasta student Tyrone Marhguy's 1st day at school

- Photos of Tyrone Marhguy's first day at Achimota School have emerged

- The Rastafarian student was initially denied admission because of his locks

- An Accra High Court ordered the institution to admit him after a lawsuit was brought against Achimota School

Tyrone Marhguy, one of the two Rastafarian students has reported to Achimota Scool to kickstart his admission process following an Accra High Court ruling ordering the management of the school to admit him and Oheneba Nkrabea.

On Thursday, May 3, 2021, YEN.com.gh reported that Nkrabea had reported to the school and completed his admission process.

Photos posted online show Marhguy with school-related stuff including a broom and T-Roll.

"These guys are now celebrities. They should join me to release some reggae songs," Nana Gyedu commented whilst Nana Hemaa Akosua Birago commended the student writing "Go higher Freedom Fighter. Is only in this country that foreigners will be allowed to maintain their hair and we're happy to accept them. However, we asked our own people to shave them or else they cannot be accepted. Ah! Kwame Nkrumah lied to us! Our beloved country is NEVER free forever!"

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that the parents of Nkrabea arrived at the school early in the morning on June 3, 2021, and submitted the completed admission forms to the school authorities.

Oheneba has begun academic work as he has been assigned a class. Oheneba’s father, Raswad Nkrabea said the school was very receptive to him and the process was not tiresome.

“The process was wonderful. The school was receptive to him. The teachers and other staff members were very positive, and so he is in class right now. I appreciate that very much."

His mother, Maanaa Myers, on the other hand, said she was happy with the welcome her son received.

“I just got relieved and felt comfortable that he was safe because we met a teacher who has been protective of him since the first day. So far I feel okay with the warm reception we received today.”, the mother said.

The admission of the two students comes after Achimota School stated that it had decided to admit the two after consultations with stakeholders on the way forward.
