Sarkodie: I sought George Darko's permission to use his song on 'Coachella'

Ghanaian artiste, Sarkodie has disclosed that he sought the permission of highlife legend, George Darko before sampling him on a new song.

The former's new song 'Coachella' includes a line from the latter's popular song 'Odo Colour.' It brought up questions about whether that was properly cleared.

In a new interview, Sarkodie shot down suggestions that he might be cited for copyright infringement because of the interpolation on his song. He shared that he sought legal authorization to sample the song.

“And that is exactly what we did with Odo Colour. Big shouts to Daddy George Darko for making it smooth for us. We had a conversation," said Sarkodie.Giovani Caleb on 3 FM 92.7's drivetime show.

It will be recalled that on June 2, 2021, YEN.com.gh reported that Kuami Eugene had been slammed by Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo, an entertainment analyst for still using songs by other people without their consent.

The Open Gate hitmaker has been accused of using songs by both young and old songwriters, and music producers including Roland 'Roro' Ackah, the producer of Okumchola by the late Seth Frimpong.

Following a recent accusation, Asamoah Baidoo advised Eugene and his management to put a stop to using songs by others without financial compensation and explicit permission of the rights holders.
