Roma beat Serie D side Montecatini 10-0 in Jose Mourinho's first game as the coach of the Italian side.

This was Mourinho's first game after being appointed coach in May, 2021. A hat-trick from Borja Mayoral set the tone for the Rome club in Thursday's friendly.

Carles Perez, Gianluca Mancini, Riccardo Calafiori, Nicolo Zaniolo, Nicola Zalewski and Amadou Diawara were also on target for Roma.

Roma's official account on twitter tweeted, "The first training game of pre-season has just finished: a 10-0 win against guests Montecatini."

This is Mourinho's second stint in Italy after his two-year spell with Inter Milan where he won the treble with Nerazzurri.

In other sports news, YEN.com.gh reported that Cristiano Ronaldo has shattered a record which has stood for 37 years having scored five goals at the just concluded Euro 2020 championship, Portugal captain .

Although the striker failed to win the tournament having crashed out in the Round of 16, the Juventus striker still ended the competition with pride.

Despite playing in just four games at Euro 2020, Ronaldo who scored five goals went home with the Golden Boot.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Black Stars winger Christian Atsu has defended his move to Chelsea, saying it was the right choice. Atsu joined Chelsea in the summer of 2013 after a bright stint with Portuguese side FC Porto.

However, the 29-year old failed to make any appearance for the London club and eventually left to join Newcastle in 2017.

The Black Stars player received a lot of criticism for his move to Stamford Bridge from some section of Ghanaians but insists he was meant to star with the Blues.

In an interview with The Athletic, sighted by YEN.com.gh, Atsu said the fact that the move did not work out does not make it a bad one.
