Christian Atsu Not Found After Turkey Earthquake: Hatayspor And Black Stars Ace Still Under Rubble

Hatayspor and Black Stars midfielder Christian Atsu is still trapped following the devastating earthquake which hit parts of Turkey on Monday.

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit parts of Turkey including Hatay where Atsu currently lives and plays for the local team.

Atsu was one of the many people who got trapped under rubble when their homes collapsed due to the earthquake.

After more than one day of rescue efforts, the former Chelsea, Everton, and Newcastle star was reported to have been found alive.

According to Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, the Turkish journalist who first broke the news of Atsu's entrapment, the midfielder was found on Tuesday morning.

Hataysport confirms Christian Atsu's rescue

Atsu's club was later reported to have confirmed the rescue of the midfielder in a statement from the team's spokesperson Mustafa Ozat.

Ozat is reported to have added that Atsu was rescued with some injuries while Hatayspor's Sporting Director Taner Savut was still under the wreckage.

The above developments led many news outlets including YEN.com.gh to conclude that the player had been rescued. But it turned out that it was false information.

Hatayspor's spokesperson Ozat who had 'confirmed' the rescue later recanted and described his initial statement as mistaken identity.

As the time of this update on Friday, Atsu had still not been found even though Turkish tabloids report that thermal cameras have detected lives around the area where Atsu's house stood.

Meanwhile, videos of Atsu's latest goal for his team have surfaced online. The goal led Hatayspor to be victorious in their match against, Kasimpasa.

The game took place at the Hatay Stadium, Hatay city, Turkey at 1 pm GMT. The earthquake occurred at 4:17am (01:17am GMT).

After being subbed in the 82nd minute of the game, Christian Atsu led his team to victory with a last-minute goal which led to 1-0 win against Kasimpasa.
