Students Of Accra Polytechnic Threaten To Demonstrate Over Utility Bills

Following a decision by the administration of the Accra Polytechnic to transfer the school's outstanding utility bills to students, there has been an attempt by the students' council to embark on a massive demonstration against the move.

The ongoing impasse follows the polytechnic suffering a major disconnection exercise by the Electricity company of Ghana over a 2 million cedi debt which has seen management of the school sharing the debts onto the students. In the meantime, the situation is volatile and Police officers have been dispatched to the school to maintain order.

Public Relations Officer of the Accra West Region of the ECG, Eric Asante has revealed to the Daily Graphic its resolve not to reconnect power to the polytechnic until it refinances 80 percent of its debt.
