African Brands Perform Poorly In 2015 Brand Africa 100 Ratings

Brand Africa, a brand-led outcomes-driven pan-African inter-generational movement has released the 2015 Brand Africa 100 with MTN been adjudged overall best brand in Africa reclaiming the #1 spot as the Most Admired Brand in Africa for the second time in a row.

The gala launch of the 4th Annual Brand Africa 100: Africa's Best Brands which was held at the Sandton Convention Center in South Africa also saw corporate giants as Apple been adjudged the Most Valuable Brand in Africa with Samsung also as  the #1 Most Admired Non-African Brand.

MTN adjudged overall best brand in Africa

The ratings also saw the Top 10 countries with the most number of brands on the Top 100 Most Admired Brands with only three African economies (Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa) gaining an insignificant presence in the rankings.

Japan at 8%,

France (6%),

Netherlands (5%),

Germany (4%),

Italy (4%),

South Africa (4%)

Apple adjudged the Most Valuable Brand in Africa

Addressing a cross section of the media, Founder and Chairman of Brand Africa and Chairman of Brand Finance Africa, Thebe Ikalafeng explained the aim behind the rankings was to test the progress Africa is making in the creation of brands which impacts positively on the economic growth and development of the African continent.

Meanwhile, Thebe Ikalafeng has requested for African governments to improve its contribution to the expansion of entrepreneurship and corporate governance as these interventions would help strengthen the competitiveness of corporate brands and services.
