The police in Konongo-Odumase have begun a manhunt for a woman who dumped a newborn baby in a pit latrine at Nobewam in the Konongo Municipality.
This follows the discovery of the dead foetus in the pit latrine by some schoolchildren who were playing near a school toilet.
They then raised an alarm which drew the attention of residents of Nobewam and its surrounding communities to have a glimpse of the dead foetus.
The Station Officer for Odumase Police, Chief Inspector Asare Ntow, the station officer for the Odumase Police told The Mirror that upon hearing the incident, he led a team of police personnel and some unit committee members of the town, to the scene.
Several attempts made by them to remove the foetus failed as the pit was filled with water.
Ntow appealed to residents of the town to cooperate and volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the person responsible for the despicable act as they mount an intensive search for her.
The Unit Committee vice chairman Paul Badu, on a tour of the scene with the police and the town’s unit committee members assured the police of their commitment and pledged to ensure the culprit is identified.
