Suspended New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairman, Paul Afoko has been spotted at the Electoral Commission hearing for a new voters’ register.
It unclear whether his appearance at the gathering is in the capacity of the NPP or in his own capacity.
Mr. Afoko was suspended indefinitely by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP. But he has come out to downplay and rubbish the suspension.
He has since his suspension sent a congratulatory message to the newly re-elected president of Ivory Coast's President Alassane Ouattara as NPP national chairman.
Also present is the General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
Political parties and civil society groups which have sent proposals to the EC over the demand for a new register are expected to appear before the panel to justify their positions.
Meanwhile, the 2012 presidential candidate of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Dr. Abu Sakara says calls for a new voters’ register for Ghana is misplaced.
According to him, what the nation requires is an electoral roll tied to a national identification system which has the details of all citizens and is updated from time to time.
Dr. Abu Sakara made the statement on Citi FM on Thursday.
