The New Patriotic Party has expressed anger over comments made by the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei that they sent 'love letters' to her as petitions.
Charlotte Osei in taking her turn at the Voters Register forum on Friday jokingly revealed that the NPP sent three proposals to her requesting a new voters' register as soon as she assumed office. Describing the proposals as ‘love letters’ Charlotte Osei teased that she is hardly given enough time to respond to the letters because whenever she wanted to reply, a new one came with different demands.
But reacting to the 'love letter' assertion by the EC Boss, Youth Organiser of the NPP Sammy Awuku accused the EC of toying with a rather delicate and serious matter.
Speaking on Joy FM in Accra,Sammy Awuku expressed disappointment in the manner at which Charlotte Osei managed evidence tendered in by the party over the bloating of the voters' register when she, Charlotte Osei argued that the register could not be changed on the mere basis of emotions.
The EC boss also outlined several issues such as; Timelines, Social stability, cost, lack of a proper identification system and things that must be done differently to prevent a carry-over of the current problems in the voters’ register. She has therefore called on the various political parties to contribute their quota to enable Ghana arrive at having a credible voters’ register ahead of next year’s elections.
