A student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) together with a musician friend, have been arrested and detained by the police in Kumasi over an alleged robbery of a Briton.
The student, Reynold Ayim, and Muhammed Ali, alias “Rasta”, reportedly attacked the victim at knife point on Saturday, October 31 around 1:00 am and seized his cash in both local and foreign currency - GH¢680 and £100, iPhone and ATM Card.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Simon Denteh, the Asokwa District Crime Officer, confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the Briton Edward Jones, arrived in Ghana for a visit on October 28 and was staying with a friend, also a foreigner, at the Kyirapatre Estate in Kumasi.
The two foreign nationals were taking a stroll, when they were suddenly attacked and robbed by the suspects. The two quickly lodged a complaint with the Asokwa police who went right away into investigation.
The Crime Officer said upon a tip-off, Ayim and Ali were arrested at their Asafo hideout barely 24 hours after the crime.
He said the pair would be put before court as soon as the police finished with their investigation.
