Gov't Compensates Farmers Affected By May's Bird Flu Outbreak

Government through the Ministry of Agriculture is expected to compensate farmers whose poultry farms got destroyed due to the outbreak of the Bird Flu .

Speaking to Citi FM on the move by government, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Hannah Bissiw explained the move is purely based on deep considerations by Government.

The outbreak of the Bird flu in May 2015 is feared to have caused the deaths of thousands of poultry in Ghana's poultry sector - a move which convulsed government to kill about forty thousand other birds in a move to contain the spread.

Bird flu, also as avian influenza, refers to the flu caused by viruses that infect birds and make them ill - an infectious disease caused by type A strains of the influenza virus.
