Avengers Leads The Nominations For Next Year's People's Choice Awards

The movie sequel, Avengers have picked up seven nods for prizes voted for by fans, including nominations for stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson in next year’s People’s Choice Awards.

The superhero film is in contention for the favourite movie  nod alongside Fast and Furious 7, Inside Out, Jurassic World and Pitch Perfect 2.

In the favourite action film category, Avengers: Age of Ultron is competing against Insurgent, Fast and Furious 7, Jurassic World and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.

Avengers star Downey Jr, who plays Iron Man in the Marvel Studios franchise, is up against co-star Chris Hemsworth for favourite movie actor, as well as favourite action movie actor. Scarlett Johansson's nominated for favourite movie actress, alongside Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock.She is also nominated for favourite action movie actress for playing Black Widow.

The Weeknd follows closely with five nominations with Ed Sheeran on two.

The Weeknd, who made it to number three in the Official Singles Chart earlier this year with his track I Can't Feel My Face will compete against Ed Sheeran for favourite male artist, alongside Justin Bieber, Nick Jonas and country singer Luke Bryan.

The Weeknd is also nominated for favourite breakout artist and favourite R&B artist, while his single is nominated for favourite song and his record Beauty Behind The Madness is nominated for favourite album.

Sheeran's also up for favourite pop artist but is the only male singer nominated in that category. He'll compete against Demi Lovato, Kelly Clarkson, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift.

Madonna is nominated for both favourite music icon - against Paul McCartney, Prince, Steven Tyler, and Stevie Wonder - and favourite female artist against Demi Lovato, Lana Del Rey, Selena Gomez, and Taylor Swift.

One Direction is contending the favourite group award with Fall Out Boy, Fifth Harmony, Imagine Dragons and Maroon 5. Long-running series Grey's Anatomy picked up six nominations including favourite TV show and favourite network TV drama.

Blindspot, Blood & Oil, Code Black, Heroes Reborn, Limitless, Minority Report, The Player, Quantico, Rosewood, Supergirl and Wicked City go head to head for favourite new TV drama.
