Police at Jaman South in the Brong Ahafo Region have arrested four persons following their attempt to traffic 22 children to Accra.
The Jaman South Police Commander, confirming the arrests on Starr FM revealed the said traffickers recruited the children in the pretext of granting them jobs in the regional capital of Accra.
Meanwhile, all children have been rescued as the police begins investigations into the attempted crime.
Reports from the United Nations Office On Drugs and Crime (UNODC) shows that child labour and even trafficking is deeply ingrained in the fishing industry in Ghana. Through conversations with child traffickers, it becomes clear that many of them simply do not realize that it is wrong for children to be away from their parents, not attending school and performing hard physical work for long hours.
