A young Afghan woman whose name was given as Rokhsahana was stoned to death after she was accused of adultery in a town controlled by Talibans near, Firozkoh.
The punishment recorded in a 30-second video was released by international broadcaster Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and shown across Afghan media shows a woman in a hole in the ground as turbaned men gather around and hurl stones at her with all their might while reigning curses at her.
Rokhsahana aged between 19 and 21, is heard in a shrill voice repeating the ‘shahada’, a Muslim profession of faith, as the stones beats her into pulp.
Her family are said to have married her off against her will and it was while eloping with another man her age which is seen as tantamount to adultery, that made her suffer this heinous treatment.
Her lover, the man she attempted eloping with was let off with a lashing, Joyenda's spokesman said.
Stoning to death of men and women convicted for having sex outside marriage which is said to be decreed by Shariah law has received condemnation worldwide and rarely carried out in Muslim countries.
