PURC Says Claims Of Tariff Increment Are Untrue

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) says all media reports indicating the Commission is about increasing utility tariffs are untrue.

The Director of Public Relations and  External Affairs, Nana Yaa Akyempim Jantuah in a public statement has revealed that the commission has not yet considered a tariff adjustment for the 2015 Major Tariff Review citing developments as the ongoing power crisis as reason for their decision not to.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) had earlier protested against attempts by utility companies to increase tariffs by over a 100%  as General Secretary for the TUC, Kofi Asamoah criticised the move arguing that workers were already under heavy economic laden. Meanwhile the PURC in reaction to the calls, said it appeared the TUC had “taken an entrenched position without considering all the factors concerning the current load shedding situation in the country.”
