This Week’s Round-up Of How Some Ghanaian Players Fared Going Into The International Break

Ghanaian players got involved in action before the international break with some headline performance for their clubs across Europe.

INAKI Williams continues to take Spain by storm after scoring an astonishing finish for Athletic Club while Ebenezer Assifuah also powered FC Sion to victory in Switzerland.

We bring you a comprehensive report on how Ghanaian players performed abroad over the weekend.


Christian Atsu is back at Chelsea for treatment and watched his AFC Bournemouth side slipped to a 1-0 home loss against Newcastle United.

Jeffrey Schlupp played 45 mins at the King Power Stadium, as Leicester City claimed a 2-1 win over in-form Watford with Ngolo Kante and Jamie Vardy scoring the goals for the Foxes.

Andre Ayew played in Swansea City’s 1-0 loss at Norwich City where Ghanaian-born Norwegian international Alexander Tettey captained Norwich into the game.

Elsewhere at the Britannia stadium, Baba Abdul Rahman started his second Premier League game of the season and played 70 minutes for Chelsea as they recorded their 7th defeat of the season with a 1-0 to Stoke City.

Jordan Ayew played 84 minutes for Aston Villa in their 0-0 draw with Manchester City on Sunday.


Striker Abdul Majeed Waris watched from the stands at the Stade du Moustoir as Lorient won 4-1 over Troyes with the black Stars striker serving a six-match ban.

Yaw Yeboah earned his debut start for Lille and played 75 minutes for Herve Renard’s men when they drew 1-1 with visiting Bastia.

Dennis Appiah was in full time action for Caen when they defeated Guingamp 2-1.

Another France-born Ghanaian player Grejohn Kyei came off the bench to score the consolation goal for Stade Reims when they lost 2-1 against GFC Ajaccio.

Jonathan Mensah fresh from his FIFA ban, finally played his first game in four months as he played the entire minutes for Evian TG in their 4-0 hammering of Valenciennes. Ghanaian youth defender Emmanuel Ntim warmed the Valenciennes bench.


In the Dutch top flight, Edwin Gyasi assisted the opening goal for Roda JC Kerkrade when they shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with ADO Den Haag on Friday. Ghana forward Richmond Boakye-Yiadom came off the bench in the 62nd minute to play for Roda who finished the game with ten men.

Another Dutch-born Ghanaian center-back Johan Kappelhof scored for his FC Groningen side in their 2-2 draw with Cambuur on Sunday.


On fire Spain-born Ghanaian striker Inaki Williams scored an incredible opening goal for Athletic Bilbao to take his tally to five goals in three games for the La Liga side when he scored the opening goal in their 2-1 win over Espanyol.

There was no Wakaso Mubarak and Bernard Mensah in the Las Palmas and Getafe teams respectively as Las Palmas defeated Real Sociedad 2-0 in the La Liga on Friday.

Getafe lost 3-1 away at Eibar.


Former Liberty Professionals player Ebenezer Assifuah assisted in the first goal for Sion and scored the second in their 2-0 win over Luzern.


Danish-born Ghanaian midfielder Kevin Mensah scored the consolation goal for Esbjerg in their 4-1 away loss at FC Midtjylland on Sunday.

Black Stars defender Daniel Amartey played in central midfield for FC Copenhagen in their 0-0 draw with Brondby on Sunday.


Ghana youth midfielder Godfred Donsah scored in the 14th minute for Bologna and helped them beat his former club – Hellas Verona 2-0 on Saturday evening.

There was no show for Afriyie Acquah as he warmed the Torino bench in their 1-0 home loss against leaders Inter Milan at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino.

Kwadwo Asamoah was also not in the Juventus side that made it two wins out of two games with a 3-1 win over Empoli.

In-form Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu however played the entire duration of the game for Udinese in their 1-0 loss at Napoli on Sunday.

Midfielder Raman Chibsah suffered an injury and was replaced in the 10th minute by Frosinone who drew 2-2 with Genoa.


Black Stars central defender Jerry Akaminko warmed the Eskisehirspor bench when they allowed visiting Osmanlispor to post a 2-0 win over them but his compatriot, John Boye returned to action for Sivasspor after suspension and was sent off once again after picking a double booking as his side won 3-0 against Gaziantepspor.


Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong played 66 minutes for FK Ufa in their 1-0 win over Amkar.

Elsewhere Rabiu Mohammed was booked while in action for Kuban Krasnodar in their 2-1 loss against Dynamo Moscow.
