Ashanti Regional Police command has arrested six persons in connection with the murder of Abubakar Saddique [an NPP member] last Friday.
Amongst them is the Asawase constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party Isaac K Brenya.
The police in the process retrieved the knife used to commit the murder.
The 37-year- old NPP member was stabbed to death last Friday by unknown assailants for allegedly threatening to beat up the Constituency Chairman who is believed to have made unpleasant comments about the flagbearer of the party, Nana Akuffo-Addo.
Addressing journalists at a news conference in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye, said the police will carry out a fair investigation devoid of politics.

According to him the matter is purely criminal and not political. “This is a mega investigation devoid of any partisan, tribal or any sectional consideration; therefore we would like people to allow the police to do their work. We do not know any faction; we don’t know any political party. All that we know is that somebody has been killed.
“Our question is who killed him? What weapon was used to kill him? Was the killing unlawful and if all these questions are answered in the affirmative, then we have a murder on our hand. Because of the serious nature of the crime, the investigation is under the direct command of the regional commander and under the direct supervision of the crime office,” he said.
“…The following persons who conspired to vandalize the party’s offices have also been arrested and they are Awal Mohammed and Tank Abubakar,” he added.
