"Politics Is Not A Life And Death Struggle." Mahama Condemns NPP Fights

The ongoing in-house wranglings of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) which has led to the stabbing of a supporter at Asawase in the Ashanti region last week has attracted the concern of President John Dramani as he has opined, it was inimical to the democratic ideals of Ghana.

Addressing a gathering of NDC supporters in the Upper West Region, President Mahama explained his resolve to order an investigation into the killings.

Abubakr Mohammed, 30, an avid supporter of the current NPP chair, Freddie Blay was stabbed several times in a confrontation with supporters of the suspended national chairman Paul Afoko on Friday. The deceased met his death after he and his group engaged in an open fight with the Afoko supporters who had returned to the constituency office after staging a protest in Accra on Thursday.

In the meantime, police has arrested the Asawase constituency chairman of the NPP Isaac Brenya as he has been suspected for causing the killing. The weapon which was allegedly used in the murder has also been retrieved by the Police. Four other people including, the constituency's deputy women's organiser are also in custody over the matter.
