President John Dramani Mahama has also condemned the recent murder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) support in the Asawase constituency in the Ashanti Region.
According to the president such acts should not be tolerated in our politics. “These things that are happening – acid bath – is wrong and recently another supporter was stabbed. It is not acceptable and I have asked the police to investigate, find those who did it and bring them to book.”
He further noted that “no amount of political power is worth shedding a drop of blood of any Ghanaian”.
“There is no place in our politics for this kind of violence…; Politics is not a life and death struggle, politics is live and let live,” he added.
He made these comments in the Upper West Regional capital, Wa.
NPP loyalist, Abubakar Saddiq was stabbed last Thursday in a protest over comments made by the chairman of the Asawase constituency.
He was said to have gone to the constituency office on hearing the office had been ransacked Friday morning but was attacked and murdered by unknown assailants.
President Mahama said he has directed the police to do all they can to bring the perpetrators to book.
