Energy Crisis Worsens As VRA Shuts Down All Plants Due To Failure To Buy Fuel

All thermal plants belonging to the Volta River Authority in Tema have been shut down due to what authorities say is the VRA's failure to buy fuel to power them as close sources further reveals the VRA has borrowed as much as GHC1.3 billion from local banks but is struggling to repay the loans.

What this means is that the VRA will no longer be in the capacity to supply all megawatts needed onto the national grid as part of efforts to balance the effects of the power crisis.

The unexpected closure of the plants is comes in the wake of postponed promises by President John Dramani of an end to the power crisis before the 2016 general elections.

Officials at the VRA are yet to comment on the situation as government is also looking forward to the set-sailing of the emergency power barges.
