Two persons, Ernest Atani and Roland Darkey who have been on the wanted list of the police for their alleged involvement in a series of robberies and the snatching of wedding rings in Teshie and its environs have been arrested.

According to the police, since their arrest, the two suspects have led investigators to more than 16 houses where they forcefully snatched the wedding rings off their victims’ fingers, after robbing them of their valuables.
In some instances, the suspects reportedly cut off the ‘ring fingers’ of their victims if they found them difficult to remove. They confessed to the investigators that the stolen rings, mostly gold, were sold to goldsmiths who re-moulded and sold them to prospective couples on the market.
Atani, one of the suspects described how he was recruited into the gang a year ago and decided to continue robbing people even when most of his accomplices had been arrested.
According to report, two of the syndicate Adabire Macday and Simon Sowah who were arrested in their involvement with robberies in Teshie Rasta, Greda Estate and other Teshie suburbs were sentenced to 45 and 70 years with hard labour respectively by an Accra Circuit court.
Briefing media men, (DCOP) Mr Christian Tetteh Yohunu, the Accra Regional Commander, described the arrest of the two suspects as a success in the fight against crime, and said it was also a relief to the residents of Teshie and its environs.
Although he said the police strongly believed other members of the gang were on the run, he could not state how many they were.
