Martin Delle, the CEO of the DKM Diamond Microfinance Company Limited, was on Friday remanded in prison custody for his inability to satisfy his bail conditions.
The Sunyani magistrate’s court has ordered him to reappear on Friday, November 20, 2015, in a case in which some trustees of a non-bank financial institution, Creative Fun Club, have filed a suit against DKM Microfinance for their inability to pay the accrued interest and investment of members of the club.
The court remanded Mr Delle and one of his directors, Mr Richard Zawi, in prison custody last Friday.
However, when they reappeared before the court, presided over by Mr Jojo Hayford on Monday, they were each granted a GH¢50,000 bail, with three sureties, two of which were to be justified.
Hours after the court had adjourned; Mr Delle and some of his workers were still loitering about in the courtroom apparently not knowing what to do. They subsequently failed to satisfy the bail conditions and the court had no option than to send them back to prison.
During the court proceedings, more than 150 people, most of them customers of the microfinance company, picketed outside the small courtroom as they waited to hear the outcome of the proceedings.
Delle was dragged before the Sunyani Magistrate’s Court earlier this month over his failure to refund the investment of one of his customers. The court last Friday, November 13, 2015, ordered him to come up with a refund plan to the re-imbursement of his numerous customers.
He could, however not provide the court with any such plan and that case was also rescheduled for November 26, 2015, in the numerous files lodged against him.
