Ghana Ranked 2nd In Open Defecation

Ghana has been ranked second after Sudan in Africa for open defecation as a report claims 19 percent of its population ease themselves in the open.

Chief Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Officer at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), David Duncan disclosed this during a breakfast meeting for editors giving an insight to  of open defecation, its environmental and health impacts, particularly on growing children.

In his presentation dubbed the ‘Menace of Open Defecation’ to the gathering, Mr Duncan revealed  five million Ghanaians do not have access to any toilet facility with 20 million not having access to basic improved sanitation.
