President John Dramani Mahama has been massively endorsed by an overwhelming 1199118 'Yes' votes representing 95.10% from the party’s members in a presidential primaries held Saturday.
The endorsement means he will lead the NDC in the 2016 general elections.
Out of the over two million party members expected to cast their votes, 61846 voted 'No' in relation to President Mahama’s candidature in 265 out of 275 constituencies.
"My brothers and sisters, I feel deeply honoured for the trust imposed in me by endorsing me to lead the NDC party," he said during his acceptance speech.
"This resounding mandate has filled me with a new set of strength .." he added.
Mahama is seeking a second term, having won the 2012 presidential elections following the death of then president John Evans Atta Mills.
Mahama went into the internal elections unopposed but had to be endorsed per the rules of the party’s competition.
