Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney is wanted to become the face of Chinese football, The Sun reports.
Despite the striker has three years on his contract at Old Trafford, the source claims the cash-rich Super League is keen on taking him to Asia, after a massive TV deal injected funds into the league.
The Sun states that Rooney has reportedly been identified as the superstar China needs to give their competition a worldwide profile.
China has imported some world class footballers lately into its league in its bid to make it popular. The league already saw house hold names like, Didier Drogba, Nicholas Anelka, and currently has Ghana’s national team captain at Shangai SIPG.
Rooney has scored seven goals in 18 appearances this season.
