Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has cut sod for the construction of a GHC 700,000 worth Astro Turf in his alma mater, Accra Academy.
The project is in fulfillment of a promise Gyan made to the school and its managers when he last visited months ago.
The multi-purposed Astro Turf when completed will comprise a 3,000 metre artificial turf which has been imported from Turkey, a tartan track, a changing room and flood light. This facility will be fenced to prevent unauthorized usage.
According to the project manager, the imported artificial turf is expected to land in Ghana on 30 January, 2015 and it is expected to be completed in early May.
The facility will help develop talent at the school.
Gyan was a student of Accra Academy between 1999-2002. Whiles there he was mentored as an athlete by J.E Sarpong, the coach of Ebusua Dwarfs.
