An eight-year-old child, Rose Quesi Ebah, is reported to have been whipped by a couple, 28-year old Monica Kabenla and her husband Emma for returning home late after accompanying a neighbour to the farm.
A resident, Lydia Mensah of Ellembelle in the Western Region where the incident happened drew the attention of the Police upon hearing the plight of the orphan.
Lydia told Citi News that the couple claimed they beat the child to deter her from coming home late in future. She revealed that the wife tied the hands of Rose, a school drop-out, allowing the husband to whip her aimlessly from behind with a machete which had been dipped into fire leaving a multiple of deep cuts on the victim’s back and legs.
The good Samaritan, Lydia said she had no option than to report the matter to the Esiama District Police Command which led to the arrest of the couple.
Meanwhile, Monica Kabenla, after her arrest is alleged to have attempted committing suicide while at the Police Station, and has been put under strict surveillance.
The 8-year-old orphan, Rose is responding to treatment at the Essiama Community Health Center from where she might be sent to the Social Welfare, according to the police.
