Lionel Messi at the Spanish La Liga (LFP) awards ceremony Monday night emerged as the Spanish league’s best player for the 2014/2015 season.
Messi scored 43 goals in 38 games in Liga BBVA last season making him the top scorer in the league’s history, with 253 goals in 289 games, surpassing the 251 goals of Telmo Zarra (Athletic Club), who had held the record since 1955.
Apart from the goals, Messi provided 18 assists in the year under review.
He also became the player with the most hat-tricks in the history of La Liga with a total of 24.
Barcelona manager Luis Enrique won the best coach; Claudio Bravo of Barcelona won the best goalkeeper; with Lionel Messi winning the best forward.
Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos and James Rodriguez won the best defender and midfielder, respectively.
Neymar was named the best American player with Sofiane Feghouli of Valencia winning the best African player.
Cristiano Ronaldo was named Jugador Cinco Estrellas de la Aficion (Fans’ 5-Star Player) for the 2014/2015.
