Economist and Vice Presidential Candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says Ghana’s economy is deformed rather than transformed.
According to him the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has delivered the worst economic performance in the history of the country.
“The Economy has been deformed and not transformed; government propaganda can't change this reality…,” he said at a press conference when he gave the NPP’s position on the 2016 budget and the state of Ghana’s economy.
Dr. Bawumia further stated that Ghanaians are suffering from the NDC’s bad and poor economic policis. He also accused the government of recording monumental waste in the economy and system.
“The 2016 Budget is the last of NDC's second four year term. Their budgets since 2009 promised a Better Ghana. The results have been abysmal,” he said.
According to the economist the NDC has always promised a better Ghana in its budget and the results have been abysmal.
Dr. Bawumia again opined that Ghana was transformed under NPP from low income, HIPC economy to lower middle income economy.
Touching on agric; he alleged that one of the reasons agriculture is not doing well is because of the poultry budget allocation to the sector. “Agriculture is stagnating,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
"For the first time ever in the economic history of Ghana, the NDC Government in 2013 imposed a special import levy on agricultural inputs."
