Ghana’s male football team, the Black Stars are placed 33 in the latest edition of the FIFA/Coca Cola world ranking which was released on Thursday, 3 December.
Ghana accumulated 778 points from the previous 848.53. The Black Stars who are currently in the group stages of the qualifications for the Russia 2018 World cup had previously made a good standing at the 25.
They however remain third behind African champions, Ivory Coast and Algeria who are second and first respectively. In the world rankings Algeria and Ivory Coast are 19th and 28th respectively.
Other notable African giants Egypt and Nigeria are nowhere to be found in the best 50 football nations in the world and are lagging behind at 57th and 66th respectively. They are placed behind minnows like Cape Verde who are 39th in the world.
World cup winners Germany lost their second position and are now placed 4 behind Belgium who are placed 1, Argentina 2 and Spain 3.
The results of 149 international ‘A’ matches were considered in the November edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, of which 48 were World Cup qualifiers in the CONCACAF (12), Asia (30) and Oceania (6) zones, Europe (50) and Africa (25). The other matches were friendlies.
