Ghanaians Unhappy With Utility Tariffs Increase

The 60% increase in utility tariffs by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has spark a lot of comments on Social Media [Twitter and Facebook].

The regulatory body, PURC approved an increase of 59.2% in electricity tariff and 67.2% in water tariff.

But Ghanaians and the business community as a whole have all expressed shock and surprise in the new tariffs especially when Ghanaians through a nationwide forum organized by the PURC rejected it vehemently.

“PURC's tariff increase not in the interest of Ghanaians – Kofi Kapito, the head of the Consumer Protection Agency said.

The Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has expressed shock about the increase in utility tariffs. They say the increase will collapse businesses and cause lots of lay off.
