The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has congratulated reggae musician Rocky Dawuni for his latest feat of making the final list of nominees for the 2016 Grammy Awards with his album ‘Branches of the Same Tree.’
According to a press statement released by MUSIGA: “This historic feat as the first Ghanaian to receive a Grammy nomination deserves tons of commendation and we join you in this your joyous moment as you celebrate your nomination.”
“Many of us are not surprised at this feat, as we have closely monitored your work on the international circuit.
“Your dedication to the cause of Ghanaian music cannot be overemphasised, as you cut your busy schedule to join us for the international launch of the Ghana Music Week 2016 in both Washington DC and New York,” MUSIGA added.
The statement further added that the feat shows the Ghanaian music has come of age as a global force to reckon. “It’s a testament that all the work we’ve done to bring our music to the world has yielded results.
Rocky Dawuni will go into the history books as the first Ghanaian to be nominated for the Grammys, as he competes with Morgan Heritage, Jah Cure, Barrington Levy, and Luciano for the prestigious award.
