As Ghana's macro-economic outlook weakens, financial consultant, Charles Mensah has predicted that employees are less likely to take home Christmas bonuses from their bosses in a bid to effectively deal with the increment in utility tariffs by the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC).
The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) this week approved a hike in water and electricity tariffs by a total of more than 120 percent. The price of water went up by 59.2% and electricity went up by 67.2%
Meanwhile, the Trades Union Congress, (TUC) has charged the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) to suspend and postpone the recent hikes in utility tariff until next year, 2016. Ghanaian workers, according to the TUC, will be fit to handle utility hikes once they are economically stable.
