Following a recent decision by government to scrap all public teachers of their motivation allowance, the Coalition of Concerned Teachers has asked teachers to stay away from all supervision extracurricular activity if government continues with its directive.
Condemning the move by government, President of the Coalition, Ernest Opoku revealed teachers nationwide were highly appalled by the development. As he warns government’s action would be interpreted as asking them (teachers) to stop supervising students during prep; should not follow students travelling outside campus; stop supervising when students are sweeping the classrooms.
The cancellation of the teacher motivation fee comes at a time when government has received a backlash for similarly halting the payment of allowance to trainee teachers. Government has also been criticized in recent times by teacher unions for not payment of other mandatory allowances such as transfer grants. But in all, issues related to the ongoing IMF program and the stiff economic regime the nation is currently in remains specific reasons why government is taking such a decision.
